he dental office of Drs. Giovanni and Margherita Ballerini
has been active for 30 years
, specializing in Orthodontic and Pediatric dentistry, with the aim of bestowing or restoring a beautiful smile to children, adolescents and adult patients. Health and proper alignment of the teeth promote facial harmony.
Having a beautiful smile in an aesthetically balanced face is important for a healthy body and mind, improves self-esteem and one’s self-image when relating to others.
Orthodontics (orthognathodontics) is a specialty of dentistry for children, adolescents and adults dedicated to the prevention and treatment of misalignment and malocclusions, that is, a lack of proper relationship between teeth and maxillary bones. It also treats muscle diseases of the mouth and face and jaw joint disorders (gnathology).
In our practice we use the more recent and advanced orthodontic techniques, for example special customized and aesthetic orthodontic appliances such as INVISALIGN and lingual orthodontic INCOGNITO.
The aim of any orthodontic treatment is to achieve the proper alignment of teeth and the relationship of dental arches, a proper chewing function and aesthetic of your lips, smile, and facial profile, all well- proportioned.
Early treatment (interceptive orthodontics) for children can begin very early, as early as 4 years old, to correct bad habits like finger sucking or mouth breathing. At that age we can improve tooth alignment and jaw bone growth.
The proper time to perform an orthodontic treatment for adolescents is during growth and the last stage of baby tooth substitution.
Now a days, orthodontic treatment in adult patients can dramatically improve your personal appearance and self-esteem by improving tooth and gum health and solving functional and aesthetic problems such as headaches and jaw joint pain (due to a malocclusion).
Orthodontics has no age! It is never too late to improve your smile.
Orthodontics does more than make a pretty smile, it creates a healthier you.
Pediatric dentistry (pedodontics) is the specialty of Dentistry that deals with the oral health of children from the arrival of their primary teeth until the completion of a permanent dentition. It treats childhood caries, corrects early bad-habits (thumb- sucking, mouth - breathing, and tongue-thrusting habits) as well as speech impediments that can result in dental malocclusion or a worsening of it.
We give oral hygiene instruction to children, together with the help of parents, and healthy eating rules, in order to set the foundation for a lifetime of good oral health, by preventing cavities and gum disease that, if not treated, can cause painful tooth loss resulting in a malocclusion.
The aim of pediatric dentistry is to encourage oral health through prevention during a child’s developing years. The maintenance of normal baby teeth is essential for proper chewing, helps in speech development and as a guidance for the correct, future alignment of the permanent teeth.
Remember, care for your child’s teeth now, not only when they begin to hurt!
THE FIRST VISIT OR WHEN TO START
The first visit in orthodontics is very important because it establishes a direct relationship of trust between doctor and patient. It is suggested between ages 4 and 5 years
. The initial appointment consists of a thorough examination and discussion, an evaluation of radiographs of the jaws, in order to get a diagnosis. The patient is instructed on oral hygiene, the parents are informed about all the services offered in our dental office, and an agreement about the timing and planning of treatment options for individual needs.
A first visit can be at any time. Fortunately, orthodontics has no age limits. Children, adolescents and adults can greatly benefit from solving their different problems of malocclusion whenever they can.
In pediatric dentistry a first visit is recommended between ages 3 and 6 years
, when all baby teeth are still present in the mouth. It is particularly important because, thanks to early evaluation and discussion with patient's parents, we can provide timely detection of problems and greater opportunity for more effective treatment. Early treatment ensures the best result with the least amount of time and expense, preventing serious problems later.
Childhood is the best age for "interception" of any dental or skeletal disharmony that if not corrected early, will cause later problems for resolution. A dental visit in childhood is always important. checking the status of dental health and proper oral hygiene procedures, will instill enormous motivation in young patients and promote trust in the staff of the dental office resulting in better cooperation for treatment.
And don’t forget ...... a beautiful smile opens you to the world!
